WELCOME
At Tahoma Ryu Jiu Jitsu, we honor the timeless principles of martial arts while embracing the effectiveness of modern combat training. Our system is not a single style, but a carefully crafted blend of Japanese and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, catch wrestling, and contemporary striking tactics, all built upon the foundation of classical martial arts values.

What makes us different is our commitment to the whole martial artist. Training here is about more than just learning techniques; it is about cultivating the Mind, Body, and Character in equal measure. Every class is designed to strengthen your physical abilities, sharpen your awareness, and develop resilience, humility, and discipline.
We draw from traditional self-defense concepts but adapt them through practical pressure testing. This means our students learn to perform under resistance, not just memorize sequences. True skill isn’t measured by repetition alone, but by one’s ability to apply techniques in real, unpredictable situations.
Realistic Training: Pressure-tested techniques against resisting partners.
Balanced Approach: Integration of grappling, striking, and self-defense.
Personal Growth: A path to develop strength, awareness, and confidence.
Warrior Ethos: We embrace the values of discipline, wisdom, and justice, seeking a return to what it means to live as a true warrior in modern times.
At Tahoma Ryu Jiu-Jitsu, you’ll find a community dedicated to authentic training and personal transformation. Whether your goal is practical self-defense, fitness, or a deeper understanding of martial philosophy, our school provides the path.Join us and walk the path of true warriorship.

Meet Instructor Stallard
Instructor Stallard began his martial arts journey at just six years old with Tae Kwon Do, setting the foundation for a lifetime of training and teaching. In his early twenties, he apprenticed under Master Corona in Hwarang Do, later earning his Master Instructor certification at CMAA. His pursuit of real-world effectiveness led him to train in small arms combatives and close-quarters battle (CQB) tactics through Maricopa Tactical under founder Mark Volpone.
During the 1990s, while working as a security consultant and bodyguard, Stallard developed the Advanced Combative Tactics (A.C.T.) System, a streamlined and highly effective approach to self-defense. This system became the foundation for training his bodyguard teams, later evolving into an instructional video and became part of a college-level justice studies course.
With decades of hands-on experience, Instructor Stallard has owned and operated his own MMA gym, worked with Elite Combat Sports, and earned a reputation for his clinch work, takedowns, and applied combatives. His expertise bridges the gap between traditional martial values and modern fighting realities.
A Teacher for Every Student
Instructor Stallard is known for his ability to make martial arts training accessible, practical, and transformative. His teaching style blends science, psychology, and real-world combat principles, ensuring students not only learn techniques but understand why and how they work under pressure.
He adapts his instruction to suit a wide range of learners, including:
-
Professional security specialists and law enforcement personnel
-
Competitive MMA fighters
-
Youth martial artists as young as four
-
Women’s self-defense participants
Always a Student, Always a Teacher
Even after decades in the martial arts, Instructor Stallard remains committed to growth. For over 20 years, he has taught at Sulsa Camps, which are extensive 3 day outdoor combat camps, as well as other seminars across the United States, and pursues his own training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Phantom BJJ and Rebellion BJJ in the Seattle area.
His philosophy is simple: “Martial arts must evolve while preserving their core values. True mastery comes from balancing tradition with innovation, and teaching in a way that uplifts every student.”

Tahoma Ryu Warrior Ethos
Discipline
Intelligence
Justice
Justice
To achieve freedom of character, we fight first to master ourselves; our reactions, our anger, our fear, and our desires.
A warrior enslaved to whims is no warrior at all.
To achieve freedom of mind, we fight to cultivate curiosity in all things, to seek knowledge, and to apply it with wisdom.
A warrior chained by ignorance cannot be free.
To achieve freedom of body, we must fight for a just society. No person shall ever be treated as a mere means to another’s end. We demand fairness in all things, knowing freedom survives only when the freedom of all is defended equally.
A warrior who tolerates tyranny denies freedom to all.
“Discipline is the ground we stand on, intelligence the path we walk, justice the star that guides us—and freedom the victory we claim.”
